Weekly Wellness: How To Disrupt Diet Culture And Start Taking Control Of Your Own Body
Disrupt diet culture? No way! Don't worry...I used to be like you too. I lived most of my life as a yo-yo dieter. It's all I knew. I was determined to believe it was the only way to seek the happiness I had longed for. But, you know what? My happiness didn't lie in a number on the scale! It's true! Once I discovered that diet culture was a industry that was designed for me to fail...I decided there had to be a better way. Over 96% of diets fail...so it's time for a better way! Let's connect back to our bodies, give our bodies the power back & find our magic! Don't be scared...I'm right here beside you!

1. Disrupt diet culture by refusing to buy into the idea that weight loss is the key to happiness
Diet culture is the belief that thinner is better, and that weight loss is the key to happiness and health. Disrupting diet culture means refusing to buy into this harmful idea. Diet culture is damaging because it perpetuates the false belief that our worth is tied to our appearance. It also fuels the dangerous myth that thinness equals health, when in reality, health comes in all shapes and sizes. Diet culture is also harmful because it promotes restrictive eating habits and disordered eating behaviors. So how can we disrupt diet culture? By refusing to diet, by loving our bodies as they are, and by speaking out against the harmful message that thinner is better. 2. Refuse to be shamed or guilt-tripped into losing weight
There's nothing more frustrating than being shamed or guilt-tripped into losing weight. Whether it's a family member, friend, or even a complete stranger, no one has the right to make you feel bad about your body. The pressure to conform to society's standards of beauty is already overwhelming, and you shouldn't have to deal with it from the people closest to you. If someone tries to shame you into losing weight, refuse to listen. This is your body and you should love it just the way it is. Besides, who wants to diet when there are so many delicious food options out there? Life is too short to worry about fitting into a mold that doesn't fit you. So go out there and enjoy life, and don't let anyone make you feel bad about your beautiful body.
3. Find community and support from people who share your values 
Self-love and self-care can be hard, but they're a lot easier when you have the support of others who share your values. That's why it's so important to find a community of body positive people. When you're surrounded by people who celebrate all bodies, it's easier to love and care for your own body. And when you love and care for your body, you're better able to live a full and joyful life. So if you're looking for community and support, seek out body positive folks. You'll be glad you did!

4. Advocate for body positive representation in the media and advertising 
It's time for a body positive revolution. For too long, the media and advertising have perpetuated the idea that there is only one "ideal" body type. This narrow standard of beauty has harmful consequences, leading people to hate their bodies and strive for an unattainable goal. It's time to celebrate all body types! By promoting body positive representation in the media and advertising, we can encourage self-love and promote a healthy body image. We can also send the message that all body types are beautiful. So let's start celebrating all bodies, in all their glorious diversity! After all, every body is a work of art.

5. Practice self-care in order to take care of your mental and emotional health
We often forget that taking care of our mental and emotional health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. Just like our bodies, our minds need rest, nutrition, and exercise. However, we often neglect our mental wellbeing in favor of other obligations. As a result, we can end up feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. Practicing self-care is a great way to prevent these feelings from taking over. Taking some time each day to relax, Unwind, and recharge can make a world of difference. Additionally, making sure to get enough sleep, eat healthy foods, and stay active will help to keep your mind and body healthy. So next time you're feeling stressed, remember to take some time for yourself. Your mental health will thank you for it. One of my favorite activities for calming self-care is drinking a cup of tea in the evening...here is one of my favourites: I love tea!
6. Embrace your body, no matter what it looks like
Look in the mirror. What do you see? A beautiful, strong, and capable human being, or a collection of flaws and imperfections? Too often, we focus on our physical appearance and allow it to dictate how we feel about ourselves. We compare ourselves to others and beat ourselves up for not measuring up. But the truth is that there is no such thing as a “perfect” body. We are all unique, and our bodies are perfectly imperfect just the way they are. So instead of striving for perfection, let’s learn to embrace our bodies, no matter what they look like. Let’s fill our minds with positive thoughts and celebrate our individual beauty. After all, we only have one body to live in, so we might as well make the best of it!
